(Quick comparison table included)

It's a question we are asked quite often by clients visiting our salon for the first time.

If the timeless comparison between lash lifts or extensions has been playing on your mind - leaving you hesitant to book.. worry not! Georgia Ella Beauty is here to help.

There really are pros and cons to each treatment, and some people may be unsuited for either.

It's important to share the knowledge we have so you can make informed decisions before booking. So, first off let's explain what each treatment entails... (or skip straight ahead to pros & cons)

What is a Lash Lift?

A Lash Lift is a 3 step chemical process on your natural lashes to create a more enhanced curl, with the aim to give the effect of longer lashes. It can be most likened to the instant results you get from using a lash curler - except a lash lift will last up to 8 weeks.

The chemical process involves breaking down the natural bonds of your lashes and restructuring them into a new, curled position. We then finish off with a hydrating treatment to rejuvenate and hydrate your lashes.

Lash Lifts do not hurt, and the treatment takes around 1 hour. Aftercare is low maintenance and includes applying an oil everyday to keep the lashes conditioned, which you can purchase here.

You may wish to add a tint to your appointment to further enhance the results of your treatment. Our client (left) has shorter lashes, but we were able to create a beautiful curl, that was defined further with our bespoke tinting services.

TIP: A great way to foresee the results of a lash lift on your lashes, is to press a lash curler at the root of your lashes for 15 seconds. If you feel this hasn't left a satisfactory result, lash lifts may not be best suited for you.

What are Lash Extensions?

Lash Extensions involve applying and gluing synthetic lashes to each natural lash.

This treatment is a lot more bespoke than lash lifts, and each 'set' of lash extensions can be designed completely different from one client to the next.

There are different styles of lash extensions you can book depending on what your technician offers. Georgia Ella Beauty offers the following styles. Each 'style' describes how many synthetic lashes will be applied per natural lash.

Some typical offerings include classic lashes; one synthetic lash will be applied to one natural lash.

Whereas, volume lashes will involve applying multiple synthetic lashes to a singular natural lash.

Georgia Ella Beauty achieves this by hand-making a lash 'fan', to help us create fluffier and fuller sets. Other technicians may choose to buy their fans pre-made. Volume sets are often reflective of stick on lashes.

Our client (above right) booked a volume set of lash extensions, in our 'wet set' style - which is a more textured take on the traditional fluffy volume lashes. This is where the 'bespoke' idea we described earlier comes into play.

Lash Extensions do not hurt to apply, they take approximately 2 hours to complete. Aftercare is high maintenance, and an infill is required every 2 weeks typically, to refill any grown out natural lashes.

Lash Lift Vs Lash Extensions

As discussed earlier, there are pros and cons to each treatment, most often you will find you prefer one or the other.

Let's take a look at the difference between them.

Lash Lifts
Lash Extensions
Aftercare

Very Low Maintenance

High Maintenance

Treatment Time

1 hour

1.5 to 3 hours (varies)

Lasting Power

Up to 8 weeks

2-3 weeks before infill required

Most Suited To

Those with long lashes (for best results), or someone looking for a little more oomph

Nearly everyone

Unsuitable For

Those with short lashes may not see much difference as the amount the lash can be curled up is limited due to the length of the lash. Those with downward facing lashes may not be satisfied as the lift can often be temperamental

Those with very sparse lashes may need a fuller volume set to achieve typical results of a classic or light volume lash set, which will be more expensive. Those with gaps in their lash line may be dissastisfied with results such as fullness of the set

Mascara

Mascara and all other makeup can be used. However stick on lashes are harder to apply, and lash extensions are unsuitable to add to a lash lift if you change your mind

Mascara is unsuitable for lash extensions, and heavy eye makeup around the area is not recommended

Effects

Very natural enhancements - we are limited to your own natural lashes. Your lashes wont look thicker, but more curled and long

Natural or dramatic enhancements - we can design any style and set to suit you

Cost

£35-£55 dependant on the salon. Our charges can be found here. There is no other cost for maintenance

Starting at a minimum of £30 for experienced technicians. Additional costs are required to infill any natural lashes that have grown out (as above). Our charges can be found here

A Clear Winner

Hopefully that's the case anyway!

Now we've gone through each treatment and compared them as much as possible, you should feel as though you've been drawn to one treatment over the other.

Let us know which you prefer!

Lash Lift Vs Lash Extensions

  • Lash Lift

  • Lash Extensions

Though a lash lift can have a lot of benefits, it does have its limitations. For example, you may want a more voluminous lash line that a lash lift can not provide. Or you may desire lashes that are longer than what you've been naturally gifted. In this case, it's great that lash extensions are an option.

Lash extensions can have some drawbacks in cost and maintenance, but many clients are more than willing to oversee this to achieve the results they desire. And in comparison to applying layers upon layers of mascara, or stick on lashes that peel off at the end of the day, just to achieve the same results.. eyelash extensions are more than worth it, and a lot less maintenance in the long run!

Georgia Ella Beauty has years of experience and expertise in both treatments, so you're in safe hands with us. Not only do we care about educating our clients and supporting them to make the best treatment decisions for their lifestyle, but we prioritise results that we can be proud of.
